A number of organizations today are working in an Exchange Outlook environment both; for communication and synchronization within organization. Exchange enables managing email accounts of all employees at one place without having to work on each profile individually. However, handling a massive number of user mailbox that it does, it is natural for Exchange Server, or any other server to surface errors due to performance issues. Therefore, this blog will be discussing Exchange Proxy Server error code 10 along with, a solution that prevents catastrophic consequences associated with it.

Other Forms of Error Code 10

A number of error messages are encountered by server administrators on a daily basis. However, the different forms in which these errors occur complicate the case. Following are some of the forms in which the error code 10 may emerge:

  • An issue with the security certificate of the proxy server may be a cause of its occurrence. It is possible that the security certificate is having invalid name on it or doesn’t have a name that matches the one on the target site.
  • Outlook anywhere cannot connect with the proxy server due to issues with the security certificate.
  • Proxy server has security certificate issue. The certificate does not belong to a trusted authority. Outlook is failing in establishing connection with this server.

Grounds of Occurrence: Error Code 10

This kind of issue can arise due to a number of reasons that include the following:

  1. Use of open DNS server
  2. Un-trusted CA (Certification Authority) usage
  3. Network connectivity having firewall troubles
  4. Exchange Server having trouble due to misconfiguration
  5. Security certificate surfacing validation failure

Outlook is when unable to connect with Exchange Server because of this error code then the user will not be able to either open the PST file or synchronize new data. In a condition like this, the only way out is to first validate the security certificate and check the server configuration to achieve proper connectivity of network.

NOTE: If the error persists, then the user is suggested to use a Exchange Server Recovery tool instead to resolve the issue.
Details: The problem is associated with Outlook Anywhere and the client application that wrap RPC with HTTP layer.
